Our illustration process begins with a detailed discussion about your book, ideas, and creative goals. This helps us understand your vision and artistic preferences. You’ll also receive a comprehensive questionnaire where you can provide important details such as chapter descriptions, scene concepts, and color preferences for each illustration you order.
Based on your vision and project requirements, our project managers will recommend an illustrator whose artistic style aligns with your story. If you’d like to explore your options, we can share samples from our illustrators’ portfolios to help you make the best choice. We’ll also provide an initial sketch to ensure you feel confident moving forward.
Our experienced illustrators specialize in creating imaginative visuals that engage and inspire readers. Once you are paired with the right illustrator, they will produce an initial sketch that reflects your characters and scenes. After reviewing the sketch, you’ll receive two rounds of revisions to refine the illustration until it matches your vision. If additional adjustments or a change of illustrator is needed, your project manager will guide you through the next steps.
After the initial sketch is approved, we move into the black-and-white sketch stage. During this phase, rough sketches for all purchased illustrations are created. You will receive the complete set for review and can request up to two rounds of revisions. If additional changes are required, we’ll discuss the best way to proceed and whether any extra adjustments may involve additional work.
Once the sketches are finalized, the illustrations move into the coloring stage. This includes both full-color and grayscale options. Our illustrators refine the artwork with clean lines, shading, and color details. You’ll also receive two rounds of revisions for color adjustments, shading, and minor details. After final approval, your illustrations will be prepared for the next step in the publishing process, including formatting and cover design.

Do book illustrators receive royalties?
At The Rapid Publishers, our illustrators do not receive royalties. Instead, you simply pay a one-time fee per illustration without worrying about future royalty payments.
This approach offers a clear advantage, as many traditional publishers provide illustrators with a percentage of book sales. When working with illustrators outside of The Rapid Publishers, contracts may sometimes include royalty agreements that give illustrators a share of the book’s profits.
How do authors and illustrators collaborate?
